The Captain's Philosophy of Training and Learning has been added to the Training and Learning section.

September 14, 1998

A presentation the Captain made earlier this year has been added to the Publications section. It is Course Development Transport Optional Programs. This presentation was made at the FAR Part 147 Maintenance Technician School Conference at Chicago, Illinois on February 10, 1998.

November 11, 1997

Two papers have been added to the Publications section. They are Safety on Ice: Human Factors for Ground Deice/Anti-Ice Programs and Junior First Officers as Pilot-Not-Flying: A Training Challenge.

September 15, 1997

The Captain has added the ability to talk with him and the rest of the crew. Get on the Intercom and use the message boards and other communications tools. There is always an interesting discussion going on. He has also updated the Avionics Bay to reflect the latest software tools he is using.

December 24, 1996

A new section, the Avionics Bay, has been added. Several links in the CRM, Publications, Training & Learning, and Future sections have been added or updated. Following the FLIGHT DECK's move to the Why? Network, the directory structure of the site has been enhanced. If you have bookmarks which reference pages other than the homepage, you may need to update them.

November 16, 1996

The Crew Resource Management section of the FLIGHT DECK has been updated to include a link to the new Industry CRM Developers site, which the Captain helped build. Also, several new links have been added to the Publications section.

October 6, 1996

The major change in this revision of the FLIGHT DECK is the addition of a section on Crew Resource Management. Also, the Captain has done more refining, added new links to various aviation resources, and made other improvements. Enjoy!

September 1, 1996

There has been a lot of tinkering since the last update. The most notable change is the addition of the figures which were part of the paper CRM FOR PART 91 AND 135 OPERATORS which the Captain presented at the NASA/MAC Workshop on Cockpit Resource Management held in San Francisco, California in 1986.

June 1, 1996

It's been a little quiet here on the FLIGHT DECK as I settle in at my new job with Hughes Training Inc. This update includes a lot of small changes designed to make the FLIGHT DECK look and work better. There are a lot more interesting changes on the way, though, so keep checking back.

February 16, 1996

The Captain has a new job! Effective February 19, 1996, I joined Hughes Training, Inc. of Arlington, Texas as a Principal Systems Engineer. In my new position, I am involved in the development and implementation of commercial air transport training systems.

February 3, 1996

A scenario has been added to the Training and Learning section which provides the Captain's vision of what the future of training could look like.

The old black and white photo of the Captain has been replaced with a new color version.

January 20, 1996

The figures which were part of the paper the Captain presented at the 45th Flight Safety Foundation International Air Safety Seminar in 1992 when it was originally published have been added.

In the FLIGHT DECK's Training and Learning section, a quote by Seymour Papert has been added.

Another quote, this one by Wilbur Wright, has been added to the The Future of the Information Age section.

January 14, 1996

The FLIGHT DECK continues to grow with the addition of links to other sites in three areas which I think are very interesting and important.

The first area is Training and Learning. I have included links to topics such as low fidelity simulation, virtual reality, crew resource management, flight deck automation, constructive learning theory, and distance learning.

The other area, The Future of the Information Age, explores the many opportunities to grow and improve our society and planet, and the many challenges which we must meet as we enter the Information Age. Here you can access information on scenario-based planning, the emerging information economy, and how they affect our society.

On the Publications page of the FLIGHT DECK I have added a link to the Aviation Operations Branch at NASA-Ames Research Center. This is one of the leading sites for research on Crew Resource Management (CRM), flight deck automation, and other human performance issues. Many of the papers published by NASA researchers on these topics are located at this site.

January 6, 1996

Everything on the FLIGHT DECK is new and rather than wait until I have all the pieces in place, I am starting small. Enjoy your visit and come back again soon. The FLIGHT DECK will continue to grow.

The initial content of the FLIGHT DECK is a selection of the publications which I have had published over the years. Please feel free to send comments on them.
